5 books that totally changed my life and why you should read them
I wasn't the "book-worm" type-of-girl but once I got to give a try and be curious about reading a few pages of novels and self help books, it completely blown my mind away. I would like to give a BIG thanks to one of my close friend ('Krys') who actually wise me up to this path of wisdom. Now, this is my daily mantra and I just can't live without it.
Each book below is filled with life lessons to apply on your daily life and it enables me to seek happiness in the long run. Happiness I initially wasn't expecting to find at all, by the way.
You will shape your mind to always strive to focus on the bright sides of your Life. Moreover, you will find yourself getting mature by reading these 5 books. It feels so vibrant to be in alignment with what you always deeply believe but never express with the right words. These books will help you to clear your mind and relax about your bright future ! Well, for me at least it helped me a lot so I wanted to share my good reads. Just give it a try too :)
The Alchemist, written by Poelo Coelho is probably one the greatest book of all times (everyone who's interested in finding purpose in Life would tell you). You can read it really quickly as there's not much pages, so it's a great way to start if you're too lazy to read a lot at first.
The story is about Santiago, an adventurer who seeks his "Personal Legend", he wanders over and over through miles and miles in order to find his final Dream & Purpose in life. By wandering, he'll meet people and circumstances that will completely change his prejudices. But I won't tell you more, you have to follow his adventure through the pages ;)
My Inspiration :
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
The man who wanted to be happy written by Laurent Gounelle is another novel which is about Julian, a lonely schoolteacher who decides to seek advices from a monk in Bali to recover from his unhappiness. He will find himself improving his vision of Life and will discover that the way to get "there" will be less harder than he thinks it was.
For everyone who wants to seek peace and love travelling, this book is for you ! I often re-read some parts of the book when I feel down-hearted at times. Plus, this is a reaaally light book (yeah, told you!, I am definitely NOT the typical "book-worm" :p).
My Inspiration :
“Many of our fears are pure creations of our own mind. If we let our fears control us, we will never grow”
― Laurent Gounelle, The Man who wanted to be happy
“All our beliefs becomes our reality. If you believe you're not courageous, you will act in a way that makes you look coward. What you reflect to the world, you become”
― Laurent Gounelle, The Man who wanted to be happy
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne is a MUST READ in English. I don't really like the translation in French (I believe that it's less powerful). I usually buy my books in English in this website :
The Book Depository.
But you can also buy it in Amazon and if you live in Paris, I wrote an article here.
The Secret is more about quotes and "rules" to follow to attract what you want (the "Law of Attraction"). Even if I love this book, I would highly recommend it as a "second" read because you have to understand the process before applying it. And this book is more about "applying" than "learning".
My Inspiration :
“Be grateful for what you have now. As you begin to think about all the things in your life you are grateful for, you will be amazed at the never ending thoughts that come back to you of more things to be grateful for. You have to make a start, and then the law of attraction will receive those grateful thoughts and give you more just like them.”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret
“Instead of focusing on the world's problems, give your attention and energy to trust, love, abundance, education and peace. :-)”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret
Feel the fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers is actually the first self-help book I read that completely change my way of thinking. I got it as a gift in 2013 (one of my bestest year) and I am now really grateful for what happen in my Life since I read it.
She gives great examples to show you how you can fulfill all your projects. Definitely the book I would recommend for a first Self-Development book.
Inspiration :
“Taking responsibility means never blaming anyone else for anything you are being, doing, having, or feeling.”
― Susan Jeffers, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway®: Dynamic techniques for turning Fear, Indecision and Anger into Power, Action and Love“The only time you will fear anything is when you say no and resist the universe. You may have heard the expression “Go with the flow.” This means consciously accepting what is happening in your life.”
― Susan Jeffers, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway
“The less you need someone's approval, the more you are able to love them.”
― Susan Jeffers, Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway
“When we give from a place of Love, rather than from a place of Expectation, more usually comes back to us than we could have ever imagined”
― Susan Jeffers, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway
Meditate from Christophe André is this kind of books that makes you feel peaceful. In this fast-paced environment, we forget to breathe and enjoy what Life has to offer. Life is not a race but a gift. Enjoy and don't rush through it.
